OUTDOOR ADVENTURES
Flagler Beach is a true playground for outdoor lovers, with endless ways to soak up the Florida sun and scenery. Here are five standout outdoor adventures—each offering its own unique thrill and sense of discovery.

Surf Fishing

FISHING

Whether you prefer casting your line into the surf, dropping a hook from the Flagler Beach Pier, or fishing along the Intracoastal Waterway at Betty Steflik Memorial Preserve under the bridge on Highway 100, this area is an angler’s paradise. At the preserve, you can enjoy serene shoreline access and fishing platforms, perfect for catching redfish, black drum, and sheepshead in the brackish waters. The surroundings of salt marsh and mangroves provide a peaceful backdrop, with easy parking and quick access from downtown Flagler Beach.

The Flagler Beach Pier offers easy access, stunning views, and a welcoming community of local fishers. Surf fishing along the beach is also a favorite, with opportunities to reel in species like pompano and redfish. Local bait shops are ready to equip you with all the gear you need, regardless of your experience level. Remember, a fishing license is required for both saltwater and freshwater fishing.

While there's ongoing discussion about potential new surf fishing zones to ensure safety for everyone, fishing remains accessible at designated areas, including the Intracoastal and the pier. Be sure to check for any updates on local regulations before you cast your line.

***The reconstruction of the Flagler Beach Pier has faced delays primarily due to the impact of Hurricane Ian, which caused extensive damage and postponed the start of major construction activities. Work officially began in June 2025, later than initially planned, as crews needed additional time for storm recovery, project planning, and obtaining necessary permits. Other contributing factors to the delay include the complexity of building a new pier that is resistant to storms and the need for coordination with federal and state agencies for funding and regulatory compliance. The project also involves preserving a historic section of the pier, which has required extra planning and careful execution. Despite these setbacks, the reconstruction is now actively underway, with demolition and rebuilding progressing throughout the summer and fall of 2025. The completion date has been adjusted, with the new pier now expected to open to the public in early 2026, rather than the originally anticipated late 2025.
